Heartfelt gratitude is a central pillar of San Diego Blood Bank’s approach, and it is one of the things that keeps blood donors dedicated to saving lives again and again.
San Diego Blood Bank (SDBB) is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, supplying blood and blood products to more than 40 hospitals in San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Los Angeles Counties. They are the primary provider of blood to Rady Children’s Hospital. Their mission is saving lives with quality blood products in partnership with the community. Every year, more than 120,000 units of blood provided by San Diego Blood Bank are given to patients of all ages, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. These patients are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, emergency surgery, trauma, childbirth complications and more. Patients like Kamila (pictured) who has a severe form of anemia that requires blood transfusions every three weeks. She will continue to depend on them for the rest of her life. SDBB also collaborates with over 100 research partners on clinical research efforts related to cancer, regenerative medicine and more, making them a national blood bank leader in advancing wellness and the future of health for those in our community and beyond. The PEERS Network supports SDBB with blood, convalescent plasma and financial donations. One blood donation can save up to three lives, while a convalescent plasma donation could potentially help patients fighting the COVID-19 virus. The PEERS Network’s generous gift of $10,000 funded the emergency preparedness program enabling the purchase of a blood reserve freezer system that will allow SDBB to freeze a five-to-six-day supply of type O blood, impacting more than 1,000 lives. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. One day it could be a friend, family member, or even yourself. Please consider making an appointment to donate blood today at www.sandiegobloodbank.org. |
