OUR MISSION:  To Disrupt the cycles of incarceration and poverty by helping people find their way to self-sufficiency.

Second Chance carries out its mission by providing workforce readiness training and job placement programs to youth and adults. Second Chance also delivers wrap-around services including transitional housing, behavioral health treatment and financial literacy to help our participants reach self-sufficiency.

WHO WE ARE:  Founded in 1993, Second Chance strives to ensure all members of our community have the means to achieve self-sufficiency, regardless of age, race, or criminal history. In other words, whether one struggles with addiction, incarceration, homelessness, a family history of criminal behavior or gang involvement, or you just took a wrong turn in life, Second Chance can help you find your way to a positive, successful future. 

OUR VISION:  
Second Chance is the most effective solution for reducing recidivism, unemployment and homelessness; empowering our participants to make sustainable personal changes that positively impact society. 


SECOND CHANCE CARES:

Clients First: All programming begins from a position of respect for our clients’ needs.
Always Authentic: Our work is driven by knowledge of and empathy for our clients’ experiences.
Research Matters: We are committed to leveraging current research, evidence-based practices and assessing outcomes.
Employment is Key: Through improved self-esteem and personal responsibility, our clients gain employment and become positive contributors to society.
Systematic Approach: We conduct an integrated and systematic approach to fulfilling our mission.

THE FACTS:
  • CA spends $55,000 per year per adult inmate.
  • 67% of CA inmates released from prison return in 1 – 3 years.
  • Second Chance spends $2,000 to graduate one adult from Job Readiness Training.
  • 77% of Second Chance graduates find employment within 6 months.
  • CA spends $127,000 per year per juvenile inmate.
  • Second Chance spends $8,000 - $10,000 per year per Second Chance Youth.
  • 60% of Second Chance Youth enter employment following services; 10% pursue secondary education.
  • Since 1993, over 17,000 adults and youth have been served by Second Chance.
