PEERS Network will be donating to foster youth in San Diego County in the form of their very own Suitcases with a couple items inside for the holidays. On December 10, 2016 PEERS Network will be gathering in Enchinitas, CA to pack 150 suitcases for foster youth so they can have something they own that can be locked and taken with them as they move from foster home to foster home. These kids get moved often and when they do, sometimes it’s only with a few hours notice. They get a big black trash bag to put all their stuff in and have to leave the rest. Some of these kids don’t even have their own deodorant or toothpaste. We will be putting in a toiletry kit and a book called the ABC’s of Character into each suitcase. A Case for Character charity is giving them something they can call their own and using character books to teach them things they wouldn’t otherwise learn. Kids in America shouldn’t have to have the shame of carrying all their belongings in a trash bag. We would like to raise enough money to wipe out this entire issue in San Diego county. So that no children in the foster system in San Diego have to receive a trash bag ever again. The goal of $206,000 would get 3,495 kids suitcases in San Diego County. That is the total number of foster kids in our county. Learn more at: http://www.foreverkids.org |
